Labor Day in the Ukraine

These pictures were taken from the balcony of our apartment. We awoke this morning to the sounds of speakers blaring and anthems playing in honor of Labor Day. Labor Day emerged as a public holiday during Soviet Era. Even after the fall of the Soviet regieme it retained its status. There was a gathering today of the Ukrainian Communist Party. They put flowers around the statue of Lenin and had some type of ceremony.

There were parades of groups of people coming from all directions.

The group around the statue, along with the cars playing music, left and joined in the parade. I think that they were all gathering together at one spot around 1:00 pm for a final rally. We decided to stay in for the morning!
