Flying Oxen and their wings

Sometimes Christian can use the English language in a very funny way. Part of this is due to the fact that he has spent almost half his life in Russia. Sometimes there are just words that he has not been acquainted with, words that I take for granted that he knows.

Yesterday, while we were catching up on English, he had to write and interrogative sentence using the plural possesive of oxen (are you smarter than a fifth grader). He tried his sentence out on me before writing it --

Hey, did you see those oxen flying by?

Needless to say, I died laughing and asked the question that any mother would ask, "Do you know what oxen are?" Laughingly, he admitted no he did not know what they were. When I explained that they were like large cows, he died laughing too.

After we quit laughing, we actually wrote the sentence with the right form of the plural possessive -- Hey did you see those oxen's wings?

Hope you see an ox fly today!
